This family session at Woodend Sanctuary and Mansion in Chevy Chase, MD is a special one to me for so many reasons.
Having grown up in Chevy Chase, this beautiful location has always been one of my favorites. In fact, my husband and I almost chose it for our wedding venue! Sadly, they didn’t have our date at that time, but it all works out in the end because I love using this location for sessions. The event coordinator is so lovely too!
But, even more special is this family. I have been so lucky to get to know this beautiful Mom for the last few years. She is an incredible teacher/educator who I am blessed to have as a tutor my two girls! I was so honored to document this season of life for her family. It’s not hard to see just how much Mom and Dad adore their little girl.
During this session, their sweet girl was just so full of joy! She reminded me so much of my oldest daughter at that age. It truly made me step back and realize how fast the time goes, as it was nearly nine years ago that my daughter was her age!

On a personal note, it’s hard to not be wistful of those days when my own kids were this small. I am so thankful that we have portraits around our house to remind us of those early years with our children. It just solidifies why I love my job – documenting these fleeting moments for families is so incredibly important and why I do what I do.
